Hop hop hop...its 5th Bead Soup Blog hop

Welcome to the 5th Bead Soup Blog hop...

For this blog hop, I got a rich bead soup from Lisa Chapman, my partner. The soup included a good mix of faceted Amethyst, Tibetan, dyed Magnetite and glass beads. The focal was a very beautiful purple and orange lamp bead with bronze clasp and charms.

I was very fascinated by the focal bead which had purple base with orange and black flower with yellow and black spots making it very pretty. When I started thinking of the designs, I knew I wanted to use the color combination such that I bring up the different colors from the focal but not overpower them. So I decided to make a two strand necklace with a little twist.

Using orange Magnetite on one strand with black Onyx and Carnelian on the second along with tear drop black glass beads and Amethyst enhanced the orange in the focal and black round Onyx for the single strand helped balance it. For the earrings, I dangled the bronze charms with orange Magnetite and Amethyst.

I loved the almond shaped ear wires that Lisa had sent to me. Tibetan beads with bead caps made a wonderful pair of earrings with those ear wires. I also made a simple pair of earrings with black tear drops.

Now its time for me to start hopping and I will do it with Lisa's blog!

  1. Menka, your pieces are gorgeous! The orange beads brighten up the dark necklace and make it a happy sunny place to be. I love the asymmetrical design too. The earrings are just delicious! You got yourself 2 pairs to make 2 different sets with the necklace - wonderful idea.

  4. Nice! I like how you gave the necklace a twist. Such a fun piece - the orange really pops against the black beads and complements the colours in that Lampwork bead so well.

  6. Hi Menka, I really love how you used the Donna Millard focal. I would never have thought to string it off center. I absolutely love it! Isn't it funny we both used double strands in our necklaces? Your earrings are great too! Thanks for being my bead soup partner!

  8. I have been blog hopping all morning. Yours is one of my favorites. I like the brightness of your pieces despite the offset of the black beads. So many of the blog soup pieces are gorgeous but so intricate and layered I could never wear them without poking an eye out. THIS necklace is one I would wear often without fear of injury:)

  18. Hello Menka...I must say you have an incredible eye for beautiful composition. I never would have dreamed up a necklace that flows so well ....it is so eye-catching and blends all of the colors with the focal so nicely. It looks like it is from the pages of a magazine like Stringing or Bead & Button! The earrings are great as well. I love how you pulled together all of the components from your bead soup. And you really did have such a sweet partner - I saw the wonderful NASA souvenirs that she sent! :-)
